How to Connect Related Notes
Use local similarity to rediscover related ideas you already saved.
Introduction
The payoff of a second brain is not storage — it is unexpected reunion. Two notes written months apart can belong to the same insight if you can see the link.
What you'll learn
- How MemoBraid finds related notes locally
- How Connections differs from a visual graph product
- Habits that make relatedness more useful
Local relatedness, not magic
MemoBraid can surface related notes using local text similarity across your library. This does not require an API key and does not upload your corpus to MemoBraid.
Open Connections (`/app/connections`) to explore related items. The product is explicit: this is not a polished visual knowledge-graph canvas; it is practical related-note discovery.
Write notes so connections can form
Use concrete nouns and stable terminology. If you always write “retrieval-augmented generation” once and “that RAG thing” elsewhere, similarity has less to work with. Light titles and summaries also help.
Combine with search and collections
Related notes complement — not replace — Home search and Collections. Use each when it fits: search when you remember a phrase, collections when you know the project, related notes when you want overlaps.
Review related notes
- Save at least several notes on overlapping topics.
- Visit Connections in the app (URL `/app/connections`).
- Open a suggested related note and skim for real overlap.
- If useful, place both into the same Collection.
Reconnect what you already wrote
Related notes work better after you have a living library — capture first.
FAQ
Is this a full knowledge graph UI?
No. MemoBraid emphasizes related notes via local similarity. A cinematic graph view is not the current product.
Do I need embeddings or a vector database?
Not for the local relatedness features shipped in the app today.
Why don’t I see Connections in the sidebar?
The route exists; the sidebar entry is currently hidden. You can still open `/app/connections` directly.
